Overview
One of the defining characteristics of the Institute is its intellectual community of scholars and graduate students from across the humanities and social sciences. Whether during the Fellows Seminars, at Wednesday Tea, in a working research group, or spontaneously in the hallway, our faculty and fellows exchange ideas on an ongoing basis about the cultural changes underway in our world today. With an outstanding Advisory Board, the Institute’s local community is nationally and internationally connected to the leading intellectuals of our time.

Fellows
The Institute is committed to training the next generation of scholars. Each year fellowships are offered, adding a new cohort to our current fellows. Our alumni fellows are placed at institutions across the country.

The Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture is an interdisciplinary research center and intellectual community at the University of Virginia committed to understanding contemporary cultural change and its individual and social consequences, training young scholars, and providing intellectual leadership in service to the public good.
